The Institute of Jamaica (IOJ) is inviting entries for the Junior Exhibition for Art & Crafts in Schools, 2014. All primary level schools (i.e. preparatory, primary, junior high, all age etc.) island wide are invited to submit entries for the exhibition. All eligible entrants must be students between the ages of 6 and 12 years old.
The Visual Arts Programme has formed part of the offerings of the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) since its inception in 1963. Over the years, the programme has evolved into a comprehensive slate of activities throughout each year. These include the National Visual Arts Competition & Exhibition; short training programmes in the form of workshops and seminars that address skill development and industry issues; collaborative projects with agencies and companies with similar goals; and the staging of exhibitions and other promotional opportunities.
Self-employed persons will now find it simpler to pay their estimated income tax, as well as education tax and NHT and NIS contributions with the introduction of a single Quarterly Statutory Payment form (S03). This form, which was introduced on January 1, 2014, replaces four separate payment vouchers and forms that this group was previously required to fill out in order to make payments.
Employers are reminded that their Monthly Statutory Remittance payroll payments (S01) for the January period are due on Friday, February 14, 2014 and are encouraged to file and pay these amounts on time to be eligible for the newly introduced Employment Tax Credit (ETC).
Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is advising that as of July 15, 2013, amendments were effected to the procedure of certifying Charitable Organizations approved prior to July 15, 2013 and processing new applications, from July 15, 2013 onwards, for exemption under Section 12(h) of the Income Tax Act.
The NLS space is available for one month, during which rent will be waived (from October 10 to November 10, 2014). The space is available for artists working on ongoing or new projects. This will be awarded on a merit basis, based on innovativeness of the project. Preference will also be given to artists who have graduated from the Edna Manley College within the last three years and/or are working on a collaborative projects as a pair.
Proposals for exhibitions, or submission of work to be considered will be accepted from individual artists, groups of artists and/or curators. Proposals must consist of a curriculum vitae, an exhibition concept/narrative/artist statement, 5 - 10 jpegs/gifs (1000 pixels on longest side) and/or 1 - 3 video clips (or links to video clips) of no more than 5 minutes each.
