Profile: Eugene Williams
Eugene Williams has been Director of the School of Drama for the past twelve years. He has had more than thirty years of experience in the theatre, starting in his native country - Guyana where he was a leading actor at the Theatre Guild Playhouse. His passion for the stage, cultivation of technique and strict discipline of process was spawned in productions such as King Lear, Dream on Monkey Mountain, A View from The Bridge, A Streetcar Named Desire and several others.
His passion and talent for the art of the thespian, lead him to pursue studies in theatre at the then Jamaica School of Drama in 1978. Immediately after graduation he was persuaded by Director Dennis Scott, despite his determination to return home, to be one of the founding members of the School’s Graduate Theatre Company. After two years with the company he was invited to join the faculty as a Senior lecturer in Directing.
