Marilyn Delevante, born and educated in Jamaica returned home in 1963 after qualifying as a medical practitioner at the University of Glasgow in Scotland. She was employed by the Ministry of Health, working in Public Health until her retirement. An avid collector of books, documents, and newspaper articles on Jamaica’s Jewish Community, she compiled her first book, Island of One People, An account of the History of the Jews of Jamaica, published in 2005 by Ian Randle Publishers, which is now in its second edition. In 2008 she self-published The Knell of Parting Day, A History of the Jews of Port Royal and the Hunts Bay Cemetery.
