Resources: Foundation Center - excellent resource on US grantmaking
Established in 1956, the Foundation Center is a leading source of information about philanthropy worldwide. In addition to conducting research, education, and training programs on philanthropy, the Centre maintains the most comprehensive database on U.S. - and, increasingly, global - grantmakers and their grants. According to its website, it collects information on the nearly 100,000 foundations, corporate donors, and grantmaking public charities in the US – and these databases can be searched through its Foundation Directory Online subscription service: http://fconline.foundationcenter.org/
One of the most useful services of the Center’s website is it Map of US Funders in Arts & Culture. This allows you to drill down by location and theme to a list of grantmakers in the US, with their contact details. See http://maps.foundationcenter.org/arts/FldIntUS.php.
Another of its services, GrantSpaceSM, provides information and resources specifically designed to meet the needs of grantseekers – including in-depth content, the possibility of engaging with fellow peers and experts, and support to energise your fundraising efforts. See http://grantspace.org/Subjects/Arts-and-Culture.
In October, the Foundation Center will be celebrating Funding for Arts Month during which it will be hosting special events, free classes, and webinars to help those seeking funds for arts projects. For more information, please visit http://foundationcenter.org/focus/arts/
